After all of the skating madness Friday, I thought I would end the day in style by checking out the Skate of the Art show. The first day of the week-long art exhibit series entitled State of the Art. To TWSSF veterans, this is the art show formerly known as Brave Art.
This year, they’ve taken a more grassroots approach, steering away from the sale of art and concentrating more on exhibiting some core Canadian artists.
Last night had a skate focus, featuring live artists painting skate decks and C1rca shoes.

Everyone’s favourite old school board brand, Westbeach had an exhibit, which was compiled by Whistler’s own, Dano Pendygrasse. A retrospective look at 30 years of Westbeach featured some seriously old school shots. Fluoro, headbands and crazy shades were all part of the retro Westbeach look. Funny how fashion comes full circle, isn’t it?
Some other Canadian board brands with exhibits include Sitka Surfboards and Endeavor Snowboards.
Here are a few artists who captured my eye at this show: Lauren Javor (who works with fashion label, T&A), Derrick Hodgson, and Jeff Denomme.
